OSADHI (Office for Standardization of Ayurvedic Drugs and Herbs Initiative)
OSADHI (Office for Standardization of Ayurvedic Drugs and Herbs Initiative) is an initiative to build a comprehensive pharmacopoeia by careful collation and indexing of information from classical literature of Ayurveda.
One of the major initiatives of AVTAR through the OSADHI research program is the meticulous compilation of the Classical Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia which is a marathon attempt to carefully compile, collate and correlate information on drugs in classical Ayurvedic literature . In this process the drug identities and nomenclature are being fixed both within and across texts. Information is being organized under four major heads - viz., Nomenclature, Properties, Actions and Applications. This database will provide systematic access to history of prior use of herbs and drugs in the Ayurvedic tradition in a very accurate and precise manner like never before.
OSADHI research program is also collating a quick reference software tool for the major classical formulations used in clinical practice of Ayurveda today. This will serve as a one stop reference for Ayurveda practitioners to get information on the formulations as well as individual ingredients used in these formulations.
With the help of the Drug Laboratory, the researchers involved in the OSADHI research initiative are also working on the quality assurance and standards of Ayurvedic medicines manufactured at the Ayurvedic Trust hospital Instant Medicine Unit.
OSADHI is also looking into the safety of Ayurvedic formulations used in ongoing clinical practice based on the feedback obtained from the physicians.
